Gold mines in Yellowknife, NT
The Giant Mine operated from 1948 to 2004. Covering several hundred hectares, several shafts were in operation. In total the mine produced more than 220 tons of gold. The city of Yellowknife was built around the gold mines. Today these mines are closed but the city is still there. The mining activity has moved away, it is now focused on diamond mining.
