Railways played a key role in the industrialization and structuring of Canada. Other means of transportation later came to reduce its position. This former railway station in Peterborough was in operation from 1884 to 1990 for passenger service. It is therefore one of the oldest railway stations in the country still on its original site. As such, it has been considered a historic site since 2006.
