Peterborough’s big tourist attraction is on the Trent Canal, the 20 metre drop is passed through a spectacular lift lock. The two basins act as a counterweight to lift the rising container at a lower cost. This innovative facility has been in existence since 1904 and is still in operation, more for pleasure boats than for industrial barges.
