Main Brook, NL

(continuer en français)

To get to Main Brook, there is the long Route 432 through the Great Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland. There are roadside gardens along the way. This is a typical Newfoundland practice where there is little land suitable for gardens because it is too thin. When the roads were built, the topsoil was pushed to the sides to allow the foundation layers to be laid. The thickness of the soil on the roadsides became suitable for gardening, as long as it is protected from the moose’s greedy appetites.
