Main Brook, NL
Just before arriving at Main Brook, on a small parking lot in the middle of the woods, there is a sign announcing the French Shore. This refers to the privilege granted to French fishermen from 1713 to 1903, allowing them to fish along part of the Newfoundland coast and land their catch for processing, but on the condition that they leave the area at the end of the fishing season without establishing a permanent settlement.
