The village has about 240 inhabitants, settled on the shores of Hare Bay for better protection. The first permanent inhabitants only date back to the beginning of the 20th century. At that time forestry was the main activity. In 1968 the pulpwood plant closed, forcing Main Brook to reinvent itself.
