The rectory also served as a school and post office. Its reconstructed interior shows the small affluence that the Métis, Francophones and Catholics had acquired with great difficulty. Faced with the spoliation of their family lands coveted by ever-increasing numbers of Anglo-Saxon settlers, many of them left Manitoba to settle further west in Batoche, between 1870 and 1885.
