
Château de Fontainebleau
The Porte Dorée used to be the main entrance to the Château de Fontainebleau and dates from the transformation of the old medieval structure into a Renaissance building during the reign of François I. At that time there was no fixed capital, the king moved his court and his administration as needed. But it was with this return to Fontainebleau that the definitive installation of the State in Paris began.
