Montparnasse, Paris

The Place de Catalogne is located just behind the Montparnasse train station and could be an example of the 1980s construction that transformed the neighborhood. The curved architectural complex was designed by the Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill. He drew some of his references from classical architecture, adding crenellated columns and pediments to the reflective glass facades. He also seeks to bring beauty to the residential buildings, even if they end up looking like office buildings.
