Old Bordeaux makes up a homogeneous area, where 18th-century stone architecture is dominant. The buildings either date from this period of prosperity, or the later constructions have been inserted into the existing style. The narrow streets, often inherited from the Middle Ages, breathe with the numerous plazas that today provide pleasant pedestrianised spaces.
