Weekend in Bordeaux

The Garonne River serves as a natural harbour some 30 miles, 50 kilometres, from the coast. Crossing it was an issue to allow the expansion of the city on the other bank. The Pont de Pierre is the historic bridge built in the early 19th century. Today, the car traffic is directed towards the Aquitaine bridge or the more recent Jacques Chaban-Delmas bridge, leaving tramways and pedestrians as the only users.
