Hôtel de la Marine, Paris
The Royal Garde-Meuble (furniture custodian) was established here in 1765 and was dismantled during the Revolution of 1789. The Intendant set up a model suite, which he personally occupied, in order to showcase the wealth of the royal collections and the excellence of French craftsmen. His visitors were members of the Court, but also foreign representatives, who had to be impressed in order to increase the reputation of French luxury in the Age of Enlightenment.
