In 1545, the Gadagne family, rich Florentine bankers, settled in Lyon and refurbished this hotel with all the magnificence of the Italian Renaissance that their fortune allowed. After various changes, the building became the city’s museum as well as the museum of puppetry.

Florence spread its influences in culture and the fine arts so far and wide…which you will of course know from Versailles, amongst others.

True, art and money went together, as in order to dedicate to art sponsors were needed

Other way round too though……we have a lot to be thankful for in terms of the wealthy being willing to invest in the arts, leaving a legacy for all of us
