Another weekend in Bordeaux
The Cailhau Gate is a 15th century fortified structure, a remnant of the old ramparts. Both a defensive gate and a triumphal arch, it has interior spaces designed for military purposes and others for receptions. Its architecture is reminiscent of that of fortified castles. The gate opens onto the Place du Palais, a fine example of the stone architecture of Old Bordeaux.
