These terracotta funerary horses are reminiscent of the buried army of the emperor Qin Shi Huang. Although they are several centuries later, they show less morphological accuracy. The stylisation of the forms exalts the symbolism of material wealth attached to the horse, its rich owner seeking to perpetuate his status in the afterlife.
