
Castle of the Dukes of Brittany, Nantes
The facade of the main residence building overlooking the courtyard is in line with the châteaux of the Loire. This is reflected in the use of white, soft tuffeau stone to facilitate the sculpted decoration. During its construction from 1466, Nantes sought to compete with the European capitals in order to assert the independence of Brittany.
