Père Lachaise Cemetery, Paris
When the Père Lachaise cemetery was created in 1804, the architect Brongniart was asked to design the layout. He chose to use the English garden style with curved paths and numerous tree plantings as his inspiration. Best known for having directed the construction of the Paris stock exchange, still known as the Palais Brongniart, the architect designed several monuments for the cemetery, but they were not built.
