Port au Choix, NL
On either side of the Strait of Belle Isle, Parks Canada is present in several locations to promote an area that is sparsely populated and poor in economic resources. Tourism is therefore an essential development factor based on a long history and the support of the local population. Long before the Vikings arrived in Newfoundland around the year 1000, several ancient cultures succeeded one another in Port au Choix, dating back 5000 years. This is the purpose of the Interpretive Centre at Port au Choix National Historic Site.
